Monster High - Lagoona Blue Ghoul's Night Out Review

My eldest sister and I were thinking of starting an Etsy together to sell doll dresses, miniature food, and whatever else. My sister was never into Monster High. She grew out of playing with dolls sooner than me and our other sisters. But recently, she revealed to me that she wished she had some sort of hobby so I offered to teach her some of my own. I have many, but most revolve around dolls and she seemed most interested in making mini food out of polymer clay.

I bought her Lagoona Blue from the Ghoul's Night Out line because:
1. She didn't have any dolls of her own and I felt she would need her own doll for size comparison to the food.
2. When we watched the webisodes together she told me that Lagoona was her favourite.
3. This Lagoona was on sale for $12.95 on Amazon.

Actually, there were a few Lagoona dolls on sale at the time I bought this one. It was a tough choice between Ghoul's Night Out and Picture Day Lagoona. Eventually I chose this one (obviously, lol) because I liked her hair better. I didn't ask my sister which one she wanted because it was a surprise. She's now seen the doll though and she said she likes her. Yay! (:

Front of the box.

This is a doll from an older line so it comes in one of the old boxes. Seeing it again now and comparing it to the newer boxes, I like the smaller new boxes a lot better. Lagoona has too much empty space in this one.

Back of the box.

On the back of the box you see two other dolls from the same line, Spectra and Rochelle. My younger sister owns Spectra and I own Rochelle. The Rochelle from this line is my favourite Rochelle that's ever been released so far, but I'm possibly giving her away to my other older sister (I have a lot of sisters! haha) since I'm planning to buy the Garrott and Rochelle 2pk and I don't need two Rochelle dolls.
I'll miss you Rochelle... ;____;

Lagoona in box.

Lagoona looks so fun and happy in her artwork but her doll is serious looking. Not that it's a bad thing! I prefer the doll's look, it's probably just not the kind of look one would have when going out to your favourite pop singer's concert.

Stand and brush.
This doll does comes with a black stand and black brush to match, but as usual I'll be using my own stand in this review. I'm not throwing this stand out because my sister might want it. I will be throwing out the brush though since I kept most of the colourful brushes from back when they used to be different colours. I have a blue brush that matches this doll. (:

I like the bright colours of her outfit, but my sister said it might be too "retro" for her.

What I love most about this doll is her hair! Specifically the two loosely curled tendrils she has hanging in front.

Gore-geous!
It's a little hard to see but her eye make-up is sparkly. I like the bright pink lips on this doll and was another reason I chose this one over the light pink lips of Picture Day Lagoona. This doll appears more lively.

What is that?
I can't figure out what her necklace is supposed to be. Is it just rocks? I was also thinking shark teeth because this Lagoona is very shark-themed, but it doesn't look like a shark tooth...

Shark earrings and fin ears.
This Lagoona's earrings are amazing! I didn't know she was shark-themed before I bought her. And even when I had the box in my hands I didn't notice all the shark details. I thought her earrings were dolphins! I'm pleasantly surprised. It turned what I thought was a sweet and fun-looking Lagoona into a very edgy and bad-butt version of her.
But then, Lagoona has always been this way. I just never noticed. I totally forgot that her diary said her favourite food was "sushi". She's the predator. She's fierce!
Lagoona is cool. o___o

Her outfit.

More shark details.

The jacket material looks a bit like scales.
I wish the tie in front of her jacket was permanent and the jacket would close with velcro in the back. Sadly this isn't the case.

Wrist-warmers.
If you've never owned a Lagoona before, all Lagoona dolls have fins and their forearms and webbed fingers. She also has fins on her calves that can be removed.

Scaly shark belt.

Besides her jacket, the only other problem I have with her outfit is I would like her dress to be a bit longer or that she had leggings. I liked Picture Day Lagoona's pink leggings.

Her shoes.

The jagged heels remind me of shark teeth.

All the accessories she came with.

This is really cute. It's supposed to look like a shark head. It has little eyes that are a bit difficult to see from this photo.

Shark perfume.
I wonder if it makes you smell like a shark... lol.

Purse.

Bubble details.

It opens!

The purse can fit all the other accessories inside.

I almost don't want to give her up! But I must.
Other things you might want to know about this Lagoona is that she was made in Indonesia and she has a really hard head; probably from being filled with glue. She also came with a booklet that I forgot to take pictures of, but in my opinion it wasn't all that interesting anyway. It was filled with photos of Lagoona and her friends at a Catty Noir concert and had short notes for each pictures.

Ever After High - Duchess Swan Review

I really tried my best to not buy Duchess Swan the day that I did. I told myself "Kiki, she might go on sale so just wait it out", but of course rational me lost over impulsive, doll-crazy me. Now here I am $20 poorer and making promises to myself about how I will not buy another doll until at least July.

Which I've been doing a good job about, I think! I saw Through the Woods Cupid (the only Cupid I ever felt I've wanted) and the Frankie vinyl figure and was so close to buying both of them.

I did almost put Duchess back on the shelf while at Walmart, but every time I pick up one of these dolls (or pretty much any toy) I feel like they're real. I have some sort of Velveteen Rabbit / Toy Story complex I guess, lol. I felt like she would have been sad that I gave her hope when I picked her up only for me to just leave her there again.

Anyway, I've been excited about Duchess' doll ever since I saw her promo pics so I don't regret buying her. Especially now that I have her and she's as beautiful in person as she looked in her pics!

Keyhole.

Through the keyhole you can see there's a stand inside. I haven't decided whether or not I wanted to keep this stand so I left it in the box.

Gorgeous!

Duchess back.
There were some complaints about Duchess' design not being consistent. Her doll and box art don't match her webisode and book cover design entirely. There's not a major difference in my opinion. It's not as bad as Kitty Cheshire's doll having purple skin for some odd reason when she isn't purple in the webisodes.

Headband.
I really want to try taking Duchess' hair down since it's just a side ponytail and not at all complicated to re-do, but I haven't decided if I'll be taking her headband off. I like it mostly except for that brain-looking poof ball.

It's supposed to look like a feather.

Duchess' hair has three colours: black, white, and light purple. In this photo it looks as if there's also hot pink but there isn't.

Feather earring.
Both her earrings are the same.

Everything about her face is great; Her make-up, her eyebrows, her expression. I love that she has brown eyes. I love brown-eyed dolls!

At first I thought her necklace was some sort of fierce-looking lion creature, but it isn't. It's a bunch of jewels.

I read the whole booklet and it's interesting to me that Duchess could possibly be the Black Swan instead of the White Swan like she thinks she is. It doesn't make sense to me though. How could she not know whether or not she's the Black or White Swan? Wouldn't that be up to whoever her mother or father is? Also, Faybelle Thorn suggests she might be the Black Swan because of her personality, but that also doesn't make sense because Raven didn't inherit her mother's personality and neither did Ginger or any of the other children of villains that want to rebel. The White Swan is traditionally a good-hearted person, but then the Evil Queen is traditionally well... evil, vain, and everything Raven isn't. So couldn't Duchess be the White Swan with a bad personality?

Although she probably is the Black Swan since she turns into one when she transforms. I'm thinking that maybe something is up with her parents. Maybe her parents are the Black and White Swans. That maybe one of them was a man or something and they fell in love and it's a secret. It's not like that isn't possible in the EAH universe.

The answers I'm looking for could be inside this book that I bought a few months back but haven't gotten around to reading yet. I've been holding it off since it's about my two favourite EAH characters.

Cerise and Duchess.

Cerise and Duchess are the same height! It makes sense that Duchess would be tall as well since she's a ballerina.

Cerise and Raven look so bored compared to Duchess!

I love the way EAH is going with the face molds. The thing I disliked most about EAH in the beginning was their sameness. The original four basics: Raven, Apple. Maddie, and Briar all have the same face mold. After I bought them I told myself I wouldn't get any more EAH and I'd stick to Monster High, but then Ashlynn and Hunter came out. From there, EAH started to get better for me.
Duchess is perfection in my eyes. She's the prettiest EAH doll released so far!

I let Duchess' hair down.

I like it better down, but I'm leaving it up for my stop-motion videos.

Everyone should buy this doll. I highly recommend her! Support Duchess so EAH will recognize her popularity and release more versions of her! LOL. Duchess is obsessed with besting Apple, but in my heart she's already won.
