Monster High - Love in Scaris Garrott du Roque and Rochelle 2pk Review

Hello! I bought this set for $40 off Amazon. I thought it was an okay deal at first. Two dolls, $20 each. That's normal. So, I bought them along with a couple other dolls and items to make the most of the free Amazon shipping. BUT THEN, I saw this set on sale for $25 on the ToysRUs website and I felt pretty bad afterwards.
I don't usually check every website for the best deal. I go with Amazon most of the time because the site hasn't let me down yet, but knowing I could have had this set for $15 less... (or maybe only $10 because I'd pay shipping) it bugs me somewhat.
Totally my fault though! I should have looked.
v____v

Garrott and Rochelle in box.
Garrott du Roque (Son of a Gargoyle) and Rochelle Goyle (Daughter of a Gargoyle).

Side box art.

Back of the box.

Garrott and Rochelle are incredibly cute together in these pictures!
When I first saw them online and in other doll reviews, I didn't like Garrott's doll. I liked his box art more than I liked his doll. I still do, but now the more I look at him, the more I like him.

His box art doesn't have that green around his eyes so I wonder why it was added to the doll version of him.

Scaris stamp on the bottom right corner of the back of the box.

Art for you to keep!
I love that this feature was added to the box. I'm not sure what I'd do with the art. Maybe cut it out and glue it to the cover of a notebook or something. Probably not this picture of Garrott and Rochelle being happy because it would just remind me of what I don't have.
ya know... things lik happiness and luv... ;____;

The art behind the dolls.
By the way, I kept hurting myself opening this box. Be careful of the sharp plastic! Open with gloves or something.

Hidden diary.
Just like with Honey's poster in my last review, I nearly threw the diary away! Don't forget yours!

Hidden brush and stand.
I threw these away since I already have so many and I don't display all my dolls anyway.

I'm going to start with Rochelle because I'm more excited about Garrott. I actually only wanted Garrott when I bought this set. I love having boy dolls since there are so many girls already.

This Rochelle is beautiful though. I love her soft pastel look. I think I'm lucky too! My Rochelle's skin (what my eldest sister likes to call "cookies n' cream skin") makes her look like she has a very pretty mole beneath her lower lip.

Skulette in the center of the flower.

Drippy mint headband.

I would like to see what her hair looks like when it's down and I know it would be very easy to style again since her hair is only in a simple side-ponytail. But the headband is being held up on her head by two plastic tags. The headband looks heavy too, so I'm worried it won't ever stay up again if I cut the tags off.

Plastic wrap.
There's plastic wrapped around her arm to protect her from Garrott's black jacket bleeding onto her skin.

Front of her outfit.

The plastic easily slipped off.

Wings and back of her outfit.

Rochelle's shoes.
Her shoes are a mint re-cast from her basic doll's shoes which were gray.

Now we'll look at Garrott! I love that he is fully clothed. Meaning: Long sleeved shirt and pants (not shorts).

Totally not loving the green around his eyes though. I'll probably try to rub some of it off later. It's not bad, but I don't really like it much.

It might be hard to see from this photo, but because his hair is heavily gelled there's little dried up bits of gel that cause Garrott to look as though he has bad dandruff. I'll have to wash out his hair later.

Gold piercing.
Looks like a painful place to put a piercing. I wonder how a gargoyle gets a piercing anyway... Do holes have to be drilled into their ears? Ouch. D:

There's nothing underneath is jacket.

His wings are one piece and they keep falling off.

PANTS!
Yay for pants! There's red stitching at the bottom of his jeans that match his scarf.

Garrott's shoes.

Skull flower to match Rochelle's headband.

I'm not sure what colour this is called. It's gray mixed with light brown.

Tag holding his scarf in place.
Ugh, I hate that I have to cut the tag off to re-dress him.

Plastic wrapped arms.
If you were wondering why his arms looked funny with his clothes on it's probably because of the plastic wrapped around his arms. I'm glad that Monster High took steps to protect the doll's bodies.
I took the plastic off because I'm a rebel. d:
If his arms get dyed then... lol, my fault!

Accessories.
So, here are the accessories they came with~

Rochelle's purse.
The purse is a re-cast from Rochelle's swim line doll, I think.

Garrott's rose.
This rose is a re-cast of Deuce's Dawn of the Dance rose. The stem on Deuce's rose was painted green though.

Garrott's diary.

Missing a page?

Another missing page?

I took photos of all the pages of his journal, but it seems as though I'm missing pages. I thought at first maybe this was how it's supposed to be, but the writing doesn't make sense if you read it like this. It definitely feels as though pages are missing.
Too bad, I was interested in the story. ):

This is a cute set and a recommend buying it if you love the boy Monster High dolls like I do!

Monster High - Freak du Chic Honey Swamp Review

I bought Freak du Chic Honey Swamp for $19.99 off of Amazon!

**WARNING! I posted pictures of this doll without her clothes. If a naked doll offends you, please do not scroll down!**

Honey in box.

Back of box.
Let me start by saying I was super excited for this Monster High doll line to come out! Right away, I knew I wanted Honey. I loved her colours, her face-up, her outfit, EVERYTHING. When I saw the first promo pics, I really felt like this is Monster High. This line is "scary cute", "freaky just got fabulous", everything Monster High was when it first came out. It's edgy and creative. It's what I want from Monster High.

So, we're going to look at the box first before I get to the doll.
I like the enlarged character art on the back of the box, but I do wish that somewhere the dolls from the rest of the line were shown (like Toralei, Frankie, and Jinafire).

A marionette silhouette in the bottom right-hand corner.
I wonder if the other dolls have silhouettes of whatever they are representing on their boxes as well; since Honey is a marionette.

On the back of the box, bottom left-hand corner...
This made me think of an old horror movie called Feardotcom, lol... Don't watch it.
o___o

Took the plastic off of the box.
The plastic on these new boxes are deadly. ): You could cut yourself if you're not careful. It's very sharp. I used to wonder what everyone was complaining for about these new boxes, but now I understand.

I like that you can take the art out easily to keep. This would have been helpful in the past. My younger sister used to cut these out to make a MH wall collage.

Inside box art.

Don't forget your poster card thing!
I nearly threw this away! Don't forget to take yours out! Also, she does come with a hidden stand as well!

Poster.

Now let's look at the doll! Very beautiful. Looks just as good as her promo pictures, BUT! She has a major problem... It might not be a problem to some, but personally I dislike the way Honey was made. HER JOINTS. They're floppy! She can hardly stand using any doll stand! She falls over herself. Apparently, she's supposed to be like this because she's a puppet, but I don't like it at all.

If anyone is wondering, the floppiness is in her knees and wrists. Everything else is fine.

Unusual wrist joints.

I want to believe that her face was worth it, but I don't know... She is beautiful, but if I had known how floppy her joints are would I still have bought her? Probably not. I feel like I'm going to have to buy another Honey doll that I don't want so I can switch their bodies.

Looooove her hair!

Back of her head.
I don't own another Honey doll, this is my first. So touching her hair for the first time was a surprise. It's soft. I thought it would be stiff!

Necklace.
Balloon animal necklace?! Cute! It's no wonder many thought she was going to be the clown at first glance.

Her outfit.

Angry shoes. o___o"

Balloon animal shoes!
Shoes to match her necklace!

Her back.

Seeing her body mold for the first time was fun. It's very detailed and interesting to look at. She resembles an alligator.

She's a swamp monster though, so I'm guessing those are swamp vines wrapped around her?

Cross bar and strings.

There's a MH skullette molded onto the hanger.

Balloon animal purse.
Her purse has a scaly texture like a lizard.

I can't say I'm completely happy with this purchase since I'd rather Honey have a normal body than this floppy version. She's gorgeous, yes, but if I wanted to pose her like a marionette I could do that with a regular non-floppy body.
When I popped off her hand, the joint came off. It was easy to put back on, but it worries me how long those wrist joints will last. Also, she has a hard time sitting down. She just falls over.
Very frustrating.

I'm sure I'll get used to it. Or maybe I'll go along with my idea to switch the bodies, but for now I'm disappointed. It's sad that the joints ruin her for me, and I feel bad for complaining... but she was $20. I don't like spending that much on a doll I feel I have to fix to enjoy.
